Alina Gafarova: Co-Founder of San Francisco Innovation Hub

Since 2016, Alina Gafarova has lived in Silicon Valley, where she has been building the SFIH ecosystem. She oversees both internal operations and external relationships, produces large public events and smaller private gatherings, organizes community meetups, and personally gets to know the people joining the community.

Joining the SFIH ecosystem starts with an introductory call and a conversation, and Alina has conducted many of those conversations herself. During preparations for Silicon Valley Camp 1440 in May 2026 alone, she held more than 520 one-on-one Zoom meetings. This personal approach is part of how SFIH maintains the quality of its community and gets to know every participant before they join.

Alina is also responsible for negotiations with camp speakers. In 2026, for example, she worked directly with Steve Wozniak’s team.

“I love speaking with our clients directly. It gives me energy,” she says about the way she works.

Mission

SFIH’s mission is to bring innovators together to address global challenges. Alina and her husband and business partner, Ruslan, have been building this ecosystem for nearly a decade. It is centered around four areas: new ways of thinking, meaningful connections, modern business tools, and new investment opportunities.

How the ecosystem works

Silicon Valley Bootcamps. Since 2016, Alina and Ruslan have organized immersive programs for entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Across 51 cohorts, more than 2,120 entrepreneurs from around the world have taken part. Over seven days, participants get an inside look at how decisions are made at Google, Meta, and Tesla, how venture funds and AI companies think, and how Stanford and Berkeley shape the mindset that helped build Silicon Valley.

As part of the Bootcamp format, Alina has also produced programs for companies, business communities, and universities. Participants have included bankers from India, Stanford MBA graduates, and entrepreneurs from Taiwan, with programs focused on topics such as innovation and AI.

Silicon Valley Camp 1440 is a five-day gathering where speakers, guests, and participants share the same space, without the traditional separation between a stage and an audience.

The first camp took place in May 2026 at 1440 Multiversity, surrounded by the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Around 180 people attended.

Many participants come with their families. While the main program is underway, teenagers take part in the Pathfinders Teen Club, with workshops, hands-on projects, intellectual games, and master classes. The program is led by Silvio Sangineto, Director of Design Thinking at Microsoft and a mentor to Stanford and Berkeley students.

Speakers have included Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple; Gary Vaynerchuk; David Yan, founder of ABBYY; Mikael Yan of ManyChat; Mikita Mikado of PandaDoc; Maxim Nogotkov, founder of Svyaznoy; Mike Cassidy, CEO of D-Orbit USA and former VP at Google; Arnnon Geshuri, former VP of HR at Tesla; Nikolai Oreshkin of Elysium Venture Capital; and Scott Kriens, co-founder of Juniper Networks and 1440 Multiversity.

How San Francisco Innovation Hub began

Alina is originally from Ufa, Russia. She studied finance and banking and began her career working with clients at a bank. Together with Ruslan, she later built an events business in Russia. Before moving to Silicon Valley, they had organized events in 40 cities across eight countries, bringing together more than 10,000 participants.

The idea for the Bootcamps came during a family trip across the United States, while standing outside Steve Jobs’ garage. Alina remembers her first reaction: “No one is going to buy this. No one will want to come with us.” Ruslan decided to test the idea anyway and wrote a post on Instagram. In 2016, the first group of ten participants came to Silicon Valley. In October 2026, SFIH will welcome its 52nd cohort.

“In the early years, we ran the programs very frequently. Eventually, we realized that this pace either required a very rigid operating model or simply led to burnout. By 2019, I was exhausted. Then the pandemic hit in 2020, and for more than a year we didn’t run any groups. After that, we completely reconsidered the approach and focused the program exclusively on Silicon Valley,” Alina says.

Today, SFIH runs one Bootcamp a year, along with its annual flagship event, Silicon Valley Camp 1440, each May.

More than ten years ago, the early programs operated under the Malikspace and Maliktrip brands. Since 2016, this work has been brought together under San Francisco Innovation Hub.

Alina has spoken at Stanford, the Grand Business Event in New York, and a conference in Dubai on networking and the Silicon Valley ecosystem. On Instagram (@alina868), she shares the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the programs, along with everyday life in Silicon Valley.
